## 白话译文

有司选择卒史，以文学掌故备员。有比百石。已上诵多者先求之。不得，讼如功令。

学古入官，议事以制，既叙功而论德，将按名以责实。眷乃卒史，实惟王人，爰从推择，以膺明试。同马迁之有论，望绝为乡；异晁错之登科，才非（一作无）掌故。进取弃于凫短，择先得于龟长。虽汉制四科，先于德行；而孔门十哲，称以文学。求之者何？方倚相之能读；有司奚失？俾平津之下第。且一言体国，珪爵斯分，片善不遗，草莱靡滞。薄言之讼，功令式昭；举事之愆，有司弥远。
