無能子序

无能子，是我忘却形骸的朋友，年少博学寡欲，长于穷理尽性，以至于命运。黄巢作乱，他避地流转，不常居处，冻馁也淡然处之。光启三年，天子在褒，四方仍然兵乱。无能子寓居左辅景氏民舍，自隐也。民舍简陋，杂处其间，循循而安。白天好卧不寐，卧则写一二纸笔札，起来则怀藏之，而不多示人。自仲春壬申至季春己亥，满数十纸，卷而囊之，似有所著者。我窃得之，多记所传所见，或曾与昆弟朋友问答之言，其旨归在于明自然之理，极性命之端。自然无作，性命无欲，因此略礼教而外世务。知道的人不待喻而信，不知道的人能无罪吗？我因而析为品目，共三十四篇。编上、中、下三卷，自己与知道的人共享罢了。我大概已详审无能子的行止中藏，所以不述其姓名游宦。
