漫叟我年纪将近五十，与世俗不合，已近三十年，人们对我的喜爱或厌恶之声，纷纷传扬人间。博陵人崔曼，对漫叟的所作所为感到困惑，便来游历并辨析它，过了几个月还没有离去。适逢潭州都督张正言推荐崔曼担任蜀地某邑的长官，将要出发，漫叟对他说：我漫叟他日不过是山林中一个有害于治的百姓罢了，本不该迷惑你，去吧，不要疑惑！你有才干学业，又明辨事理，况且正当年轻，一定能建立功勋，流传名声。如果要寻求先达贤异之人，能加以荐拔提携，正在张公。张公往年在西域，主人能采用他的一句话，于是开辟疆土千里，威震极远之地，荣耀当世。张公往年在淮南，从容指挥，万人如风随从，遭遇猜疑，便松弛下来不再作为。如今海内战争还未平息，张公必定会被时世任用，你努力吧。我所规劝你的，是应当缓缓地走向富贵，从容地谋划，稍加节制饮酒，平抑气概罢了。
