丹商非不肖

治理天下的，必定说陶唐氏，必定说有虞氏。继承天下的，必定说不要像丹朱，不要像商均。这是唐虞为圣君，丹商为不肖了。天下知道丹商的不肖，却不知道丹商之所以不肖，不在于丹商，不知道陶虞把丹商置于不肖的位置。陶虞的治理，大无不周，幽无不照，远无不被。如果连自己的儿子都不能像自己，而天下可以像吗？从家到国的，又像这样吗？大概陶虞想把大器推给公共，所以先用不肖之名废掉他们，然后使家不从我这里为家，子不从我这里为子。不在于丹商的肖与不肖了，不想让丹商在后世蒙受不肖之名。他们若贤，我已经废掉了；他们若不肖，也不会侵逼别人。这是陶虞的心，向后代显示公共。仲尼不泄露其旨意，将用来端正陶虞的教化罢了。而还有汤放逐桀，武王讨伐纣的事。
