巫比说妖孽降临到人身上，没有人不诚心敬畏。士人说妖孽降临到国家，没有人不违逆愤怒。为什么呢？回答说：“巫能预知妖孽的到来，不能驱除并阐明妖孽的缘由。士能预知妖孽的到来，却能驱除并阐明妖孽的缘由。所以不同。”巫说可以禳除，就设淫祀指向虚应，所以对可为之事诚心，对所闻之事畏惧。士说可以禳除，就杀妲己活比干，所以对听闻违逆，对不可为之事愤怒。呜呼！假使直士世代被任用如邪巫，鲠辞国家被采纳如簧言，那么有国有家的人，何须等到祸患？
